About Stephen Wallis

I always wanted to be a journalist but went into Banking for over thirty years. However, after successfully completing a Broadcast Journalism course at West Suffolk College in June 2020 I set up an International Horse Racing and Cricket podcast in July 2020 called ‘The Paddock and The Pavilion’. I am now fulfilling my dream of interviewing and writing.

Every Sunday I talk with the sports stars from Newmarket and around the World. My aim being to find inspiring stories in the world of Cricket and Horse Racing.

Guests to ‘The Paddock’ have included dual Derby winning jockey Joseph O’Brien while former BBC horse racing presenter Richard Pitman has joined me on regular occasions.

Guests to ‘The Pavilion’ have included former England cricketers Ebony Rainford-Brent and Roland Butcher, who were the first black players to play for the England women’s and men’s teams and legendary West Indian fast bowler Michael Holding. Roland Butcher joins the show on a regular basis to review England’s Test Match action.

The podcast has also featured documentary style episodes about Ellen Chaloner, the first woman trainer in 1886 and with FairBreak, whose mission is to progress gender equality on a truly global scale, using cricket as their primary vehicle.

As a freelance Sports journalist, my articles have been featured in the Fenland Citizen, the National Horse Racing Museum website and the Addis Army website.
